5 FREE things you can do to keep your skin luminous AF
Active lymphatic drainage…
Lymphatic drainage is crucial for body health. It quite literally removes toxins from the body through an intricate capillary and vessel system. There are lymph nodes all over our body and our lymphatic system is always working. Although, we can help it work even better by being active. Even if you can’t make it to a 2-hour workout, bouncing on a trampoline, walking around the block, or even doing the dishes will help your body rid toxins faster. Have you ever heard of NEAT? Non-exercise activity thermogenesis is the energy you exert by doing daily activities like cooking while standing, cleaning the litter box, pretty much any time you don’t intentionally exercise, but also not rotting on the couch (which we all do sometimes). All of these will improve and speed up your lymphatic flow!
Self-facial massage…
Have you been performing your facial massage at home? Subtle manipulation of the skin tissue is vital for healthy blood flow to the face as well as trying to fight the forces of gravity as much as possible. Always massage in upward strokes if you’re looking to lift and sculpt the face, and use a “scrubbing” motion back and forth with two fingers on deeper lines like the forehead to help soften wrinkles. If you perform a facial massage during every step of your skincare routine and during application, that is approximately 10 minutes per day that you’re training the skin to behave in a better way and reversing signs of aging!
Regular self-care activities…
This is as beneficial for the mind and overall well-being, as it is for your skin. Be consistent in setting aside time for yourself like a nightly bath, tea before bed, reading 10 pages of your favorite fiction book, breathwork & meditation…the list goes on. If you feel calm and your nervous system is regulated, you will experience less free radicals (rogue cells that try to kill off healthy cells in the body) and less stress, which, believe it or not, DOES age you!
Responsible sun exposure…
Vitamin D is required for healthy body function. Although, we don’t want to burn ourselves to a crisp in the sun because it will induce more stress on the body, kill off healthy skin cells and actually affect your DNA. Nor should we villainize the sun. If you’re going to be outside in direct sun exposure for more than 30 minutes at a time then you’ll want to protect yourself with SPF 30 or higher. Fun fact: The difference in sun protection between an SPF 30 and SPF 100 is only about 2%, more does not necessarily mean better protection, but actually how long you’re protected. SPF 30 needs to be reapplied every 2 hours if you will be staying in the sun. Opt for a zinc based sunscreen if you don’t want the potentially harmful effects of a chemical sunscreen.
Last but not least, embrace meaningful skincare habits…
What does that mean? There are free steps you can take to create change in the skin and to support your transformation journey! For example, turning the lights off when you apply products to resist picking the skin, icing breakouts, limiting blue light exposure, limiting alcohol and smoking, not drinking out of a straw, there are so many small adjustments you can make to your lifestyle to benefit overall skin health!
